Prayer still works.

“You do not have, because you do not ask.” – James 4:2b

Have you ever flat out asked God to heal some brokenness in your life? Sometimes we bear the weight and pain of things simply because we have not asked for help. On my journey to healing, carefully recounted  in my first book I discovered that not only is God capable of healing our hearts, but God desperately wants to. However, we must be open to it.  And if that’s all it takes, then why not ask for it? Stop carrying around the pain of your past or even your present. The word of God is true:

I have found the prayers shared here as wonderful, quick, and powerful prayers for healing. No hurt is too small or too big. God is up to the task. I dare you: ask!

Short Prayers For Healing Your Heart

  • “God heal me.”  Sure.  It’s simple, but don’t underestimate this prayer.  One of God’s many names is Jehovah Rapha, which is Hebrew for “The God who heals.”  When you ask Jehovah Rapha to heal you, you are asking for help from the greatest Healer in the universe.  You are acknowledging God to be the true healer of your pain, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological.  You are bearing witness to who God is, and what you believe God can do. This prayer commands heaven’s attention and petitions a response.  (And in moments when you doubt God’s power, pray this: “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.” -Mark 9:24)
  • ‘Lord make your presence the focal point of my consciousness.”  This beautiful prayer was written by Christian devotional writer Sarah Young.  I love to use this all the time, especially during a heartbreak.  When you are overcome with disappointment it is easy to remain bogged down in your pain.  However, focusing your attention on God helps you to transcend and rise above the difficulty.  God’s presence is a healing agent.  It soothes, calms, and relaxes us like nothing else can. Ask God to be your focus.
  • “God help me to be open to it being better than I imagined.”  Consider that the very thing you are trying to hold on to is standing in the way of your true destiny.  What if you can’t get to your happy because you cannot let go of your current situation? This might be a relationship, but it might also be the old pains, thought patters, and FEARS that you are holding on to that keep you from embracing the gift that is the present. Ask God to give you a vision of what incredible plans God has for your heart and your love life. It is way better than what you are fighting so hard to keep.
  • “Give me the grace to trust you and remember your promises to me.” There are so many promises God has made to us, but in the midst of a heartache we can easily become so consumed with the pain and suffering, that we forget them.  Ask God to remind you and bring into your spirit all the divine promises made to you.  Encourage yourself, and know that God will come through on God’s promises to you.  For example, “Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4).

Start to pray these prayers.  I dare you.  Watch what happens.  (Then come back and tell me about it.)

With love,

–Ari
